As a Christie partner, MITES works with one of the foremost projector manufacturers in the world. Amongst the pieces of equipment we stock are two Christie Roadster S+20Ks. In 2008, while MITES was helping Liverpool to celebrate its Capital of Culture year, Quebec City, in Canada, was hosting its own festivities. The city was celebrating its 400th anniversary and the Christie Roadster S+20K played a central role as part of a project called ‘The Image Mill‘.
The Image Mill was an architectural projection produced and performed by Robert Lepage and Ex Machina. Projecting onto the huge grain silos of the Quebec Harbour it was aimed at reinventing the buildings, usually seen as ugly and an eyesore, as something breathtaking and beautiful. Lepage explains, “We have invented a mill that transforms, animates, presents and celebrates the 400 years of images of Quebec City. The images are almost all taken from archives that carry us as far as when Samuel de Champlain first drew Quebec City.”
The project was so successful that it was extended for another five years and is now running through until 2013. Using 27 Christie Roadster S+20K projectors to animate the unique surface 600 metres wide by 30 metres high, The Image Mill is the largest projection ever undertaken and undoubtedly one of the most spectacular…
MITES provides AV equipment sales and hire, including the Christie Roadster S+20K, and offers an AV installation service. We can also provide consultancy on equipment and installations at low or no cost for some organisations.
